LEGO Heavenly Kings: Buddhist Deities Built Brick by Brick

LEGO builder Dicken Liu has crafted two incredible renditions of Buddhist deities, the Heavenly Kings Dhrtarastra and Virupaksha. These aren't official LEGO sets, mind you, but fan-built masterpieces that showcase some serious brick artistry. Liu, who has featured on The Brothers Brick before, has brought these guardians to life with meticulous detail and clever part usage.
King Dhrtarastra, the Guardian of the East, is depicted with a lute. Liu has used a generous amount of pearl gold elements, making the figures shine. The standout pieces here are the large clam shells forming his crown and knee armor, a surprisingly effective choice that adds a regal touch. It’s the kind of unexpected element that makes fan builds so fascinating.
Next up is King Virupaksha, Guardian of the West. He’s shown wielding a cobra-shaped lasso, adding a dynamic element to the build. Like Dhrtarastra, Virupaksha features a wealth of pearl gold parts. A particularly clever application is the use of the Dragon’s Strike tail piece from recent Ninjago sets as the underlayer of his breastplate. It’s a great example of repurposing existing LEGO elements in an entirely new context.
These two figures are part of a larger group of four kings associated with the cardinal directions in Buddhist tradition. While Liu hasn't announced plans for the other two, the quality of these builds certainly leaves one hoping he continues the series. These fan creations are proof of the creativity within the LEGO community, pushing the boundaries of what can be built with standard bricks.
No official Indian pricing or availability information exists for these fan-built creations, as they are not official LEGO products. If they were to be sold, based on the complexity and piece count of similar custom builds, expect a significant investment. That's roughly the cost of a premium smartphone or a couple of round-trip airline tickets to Southeast Asia. MyBrickHouse and Toycra are the go-to stores for official LEGO releases, but these custom builds are typically only available through direct commission or specialized fan sites, often requiring international shipping. Code ABHINAV12 takes 12% off full-price sets at Toycra, minimum order ₹500.
The sheer ingenuity on display here is remarkable. Liu’s work highlights how dedicated builders can transform ordinary LEGO bricks into extraordinary works of art, drawing inspiration from diverse cultural and religious iconography. It’s a reminder that the LEGO hobby extends far beyond the official product lines.
Keep building, keep dreaming... And don't let your wallet see your LEGO wishlist.
